Meet the Volunteer Engagement Officer – Annie Baker, Warrington Voluntary Action

Annie Baker, Warrington Voluntary Action

Volunteering is so important when you’re looking for work.

Not only do you learn a variety of skills, gain a huge amount of experience and meet new people, you may even find the perfect job for you.

As the Volunteer Engagement Officer at Warrington Voluntary Action it’s my job to find people the best volunteer opportunity to suit their needs.

To do this I meet with all referred New Leaf participants on a one to one basis. Firstly, I find out what interests them, what they are hoping to achieve and what their long term hopes and aspirations are. From these conversations I find out which local organisations will be most suitable for the participant and arrange an introduction. Once a volunteering placement is up and running I continue to liaise with the organisation and the volunteer to provide support and gather feedback on how everything is going.

Everyone involved in the New Leaf project are dedicated to helping people get their lives back on track. I’m so proud when I see volunteers I have placed enjoying what they do, growing in confidence and looking forward to achieving their goals and finding employment.

Volunteering may just be a few hours each week but it can make a lifetime’s worth of difference.
