Scott turns his life around thanks to New Leaf

Like many young people Scott Fraser didn’t know what to do after leaving school. Following 4 years of unsuccessful job searching he was referred to the New Leaf project by his Work Coach at Crewe JobCentre Plus.

A National Lottery and European funded programme, New Leaf works with multiple partners across Warrington and Cheshire to support local residents into employment, volunteering or further education and skills training.

Tandie Stahl, New Leaf Mentor at Groundwork said: “When I first met Scott his self-confidence was really low. As a result he had become very isolated and didn’t want to leave the house let alone apply for a job.”

Thanks to the personal support offered to all New Leaf participants Scott and Tandie had time to talk things through. Together they developed an action plan, helping him gain the skills and self-assurance he so desperately needed to turn his life around.

Scott has now gone on to secure part-time employment as a Retail Assistant at Tesco Express, Macon Way in Crewe.

Scott said: “I would totally recommend New Leaf. The support I’ve received has been great and the staff have been really helpful and approachable.”

New Leaf is a £10.6 million 3-year scheme, led by Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT), and part of the Building Better Opportunities programme.
