Benefit payments at Christmas

Useful information from one of the New Leaf Money Advice Officers – Liz Howse:

If your Universal Credit payment is due on 25, 26, 27 or 28 December, you will instead receive it on Friday 24 December – Christmas Eve.

If you are due to be paid on 1, 2 or 3 of January you will be paid on Friday 31 December – New Year’s Eve.

When payment dates fall on a weekend or bank holiday the DWP always plans to pay it earlier rather than later.

If you believe you should have received your Universal Credit but have not, you should contact the helpline on 0800 328 5644, or through your online account.

If you are eligible, then Cold Weather payments are made automatically .

You’ll get a payment if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, Zero % Celsius or below over 7 consecutive days.

You’ll get £25 for each 7 day period of very cold weather between 1 November and 31 March.
