Ian gets IT savvy during lockdown

Technology can be daunting and not having IT skills can really hold you back.

Ian, from Macclesfield, lost his job at Tesco’s after suffering an accident and damaging his knee.

Job Centre Plus referred Ian to New Leaf when it was identified that he was struggling with technology and lacking IT skills.

Ian was an ideal participant for the Remote Digital Inclusion course that was being delivered during lockdown which provided with him with a laptop and showed him how personalise it, install updates, use Microsoft Office, send emails and access the internet.

Ian successfully completed the course he is now using his laptop in his everyday life.

With a new appetite for learning Ian has signed up for a computer keyboard course to enhance his skills and with increased confidence he feels more ready to move forward with his life and get back into employment.

Ian says that:

“Since I started the New Leaf Programme, I have improved my IT skills which has helped me with my self – confidence. I think that the best way to describe the support I received from New Leaf in a word is Excellent. I want to continue with improving my IT skills, undertake volunteering work and look for a part time job”.

If you would like to know more about digital inclusion courses to increase your IT skills like Ian , then why not sign up to New Leaf today.

New Leaf is led by Torus Foundation and is part of the building Better Opportunities Programme, funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and The National Lottery Community Fund.
