Jacqui sets herself goals for the future, thanks to the help and support of New Leaf

Jacqui from Cheshire had previously worked in a call centre for a financial company until she became ill with stress, mental health issues and anxiety, which resulted in her being unable to work.

After some time away from the workplace Jacqui was ready to move forward with her life and after hearing about New Leaf at her local doctors’ surgery she decided to get in touch.

Jacqui has completed several courses including ‘ Finding Your Inner Superhero’, ‘Walk Tall’, ‘Goal Setting’ and ‘Who do you think you are? Discovering your hidden talents, with Helen New Leaf Trainer at Dial West Cheshire.

In addition, she has also taken part in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with Making Space and completed Barista training. Jacqui particularly enjoyed this training, as she got to drink lots of great coffee!

During lockdown, Jacqui was given an opportunity to undertake some volunteering with Dial West Cheshire, making phone calls offering support to people in isolation. Jacqui jumped at the chance of helping others and loved every minute. She feels that it was a very rewarding experience and she thinks that the clients got a lot out of it too.

Thanks to courses, volunteering, an action plan, financial advice and regular 1 -2-1 support from her mentor at Dial West Cheshire, Jacqui’s confidence has gone from strength to strength.

Jacqui says:

“The support I have received in the past has only ever really been 30 minutes of talking about how I feel with a few suggestions but with nothing to follow it up. New Leaf offers more of an all-round package – there was the mentoring, money advice, the courses, volunteering, it was much more of a complete package. Also, people checked that I was okay and there was always someone at the end of the phone”.

In the future Jacqui hopes to run crafting and crochet classes in the café at Dial West Cheshire, as well as volunteering as a receptionist. Thanks to business advice from Upturn Enterprises she also has the option of turning her crafting hobby into business.

For the time being, with her newfound confidence Jacqui is happy to demonstrate her crochet skills and techniques to a group called Dial Zoomers.

Jacqui says:

” I definitely feel better about life. I am going to take very slow steps to possible training and work. I have been giving things a lot of thought recently and looking to go into supporting people who have experienced the same things as myself. That’s my goal setting!”

Jacqui feels that she wouldn’t be at the point that she is now if it wasn’t for New Leaf and now has a plan for the future and can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
