When our mental health takes a turn for the worse, it can have a huge impact on our life.
For Emma, having anxiety meant she couldn’t leave the house and put having a job completely out of the question. After working with her mentor, Emma’s life has completely changed.
“For over a decade I’ve suffered from severe anxiety.
My condition had become so debilitating that I was completely housebound, I even struggled to let my daughters leave the house to go to school.
I really couldn’t see a positive future for my family, let alone myself, until a friend gave me a leaflet advertising a confidence course New Leaf were running locally with Warrington and Vale Royal College.
Since then my New Leaf mentor has gone above and beyond to support me, always there to give reassuring nudges to move me forward, but never applying any pressure. Before New Leaf, I was scared to travel alone. With my mentor’s support, I was able to get on the train on my own. She messaged me throughout the journey to help keep me calm. She’s always at the end of the phone when I have any problems.
New Leaf have provided me with the confidence to take my children on days out and the ability to enjoy my life again. I’ve learnt new skills and gained qualifications so I’m ready to look for jobs. I can’t wait to get back into work. Thanks to New Leaf I now know that I can do anything that I put my mind to.”
New Leaf is part of the Building Better Opportunities programme, funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and The National Lottery Community Fund.
