Having returned from working overseas Zephyr from Warrington had no income, no home and only two suitcases to her name. She had been battling an alcohol addiction and mental health issues and her life had spiralled out of control.
After spending some time in recovery and moving into a new Torus home she was now ready to move into employment and was referred to New Leaf from the mental health outreach team.
Zephyr talked through what she wanted to achieve with her New Leaf Mentor and a plan was developed which included undertaking employability skills training, CV writing, undertaking job searches, completing job applications and interview preparation.
“I had been out of work for 18 months and felt that I had nothing to give anymore. I was so low and very isolated from the outside world. I wanted to be back in work and would have taken any job just to be back in work. My mentor gave me the help, support and confidence to move forward with my life.”
Soon Zephyr’s hard work and determination paid off when an opportunity for an Administrator and Community Energiser with Acorn – the recovery specialist partner within the New Leaf programme became available. This sounded like the perfect opportunity for Zephyr as her previous roles had been in administration and she had experience of being in recovery herself. Zephyr applied for the job and was successful.
However, this is not where the story ends, since starting at Acorn Zephyr has done so well that she has secured the role as a mentor within the team and is now helping others with their addictions.
If you have been inspired by Zephyr’s story and would like our help and support too, then why not sign up to New Leaf today .
New Leaf can also help get you on the right path to a brighter future.
New Leaf is led by Torus Foundation and is part of the building Better Opportunities Programme, funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and The National Lottery Community Fund.
